It isn't the socks, the shoes, the clothes, or even the speed that makes me a runner. It's the running.

I will waddle on. Slow but sure I am finding out who I am, and who I am not. And that is reason enough to keep me going.

Effort is the fire that hardens our bodies and tempers our souls. It is a magic elixir for athletes. Without sweat and fatigue our lives would be dismally ordinary.

There is nothing quite as exciting as giving all that one has to give.

In the absence of talent, there is no substitute for preparation.

It is clear to me now that I will never have a runner's body. Instead I will have a runner's soul.
